The Purpose Of Chimney Sweeping
The purpose of chimney sweeping is to ensure that chimneys are clear of obstruction and to clear sooty deposits thus reducing the risk of a chimney fire. Remember a “Clean Chimney is a Safer Chimney”. It is essential that the chimney termination fitted is correct for the appliance and fuel type in use and that ventilation requirements are taken into account.
When To Sweep Chimneys
Both the Solid Fuel Association and the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps recommend that chimneys used for burning Smokeless Fuel should be swept at least once a year, those burning Domestic Bituminous Coal at least twice a chimney sweeping year and those burning Wood should be swept quarterly when in use, it is this guidance which your Household Insurers will expect you maintain.

Strict Code Of Practice
As members of the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, we sweep chimneys in accordance with a strict Code of Practice and issue a Nationally recognised Chimney Sweeping Certificate upon completion of each flue swept.
Chimney Sweep Qualifications
Our professional chimney sweeps have passed the recognised trade qualification the NVQ in Chimney Engineering to allow them to be called Master Chimney Sweeps.
Chimney cleaning is carried out by passing a chimney sweeping brush of adequate size and strength of bristle through the chimney flue, this can be carried out usually from the fireplace opening upwards or at our discretion from the chimney outlet downwards. The fireplace opening having first been sealed up is then uncovered and any debris generated by the sweeping procedure is then cleared away.
